TRAINING

Training Co-ordinators

I've been realising how very human we all are and CTDCC is "closer to home than you think".

I first worked as a counsellor at the CTDCC in December 1998 after graduating from the University of Cape Town with a Social Work degree. The idea of working at the CTDCC didn't grab me at first, but became more exciting for me as began to grapple with why we all have patterns of doing things that are fundamentally bad for us and yet we still struggle to change.

I'm currently working as the training co-ordinator at the CTDCC. My job is all about developing, running and evaluating the training services. Basically, the training department is a growing department of the Centre and is both community focussed and income generating. This department allows us to be more self-sustainable and less dependent on donors and makes our services more accessible to all the people that can benefit from them.

A main focus is to help corporates. I found that a lot of people are phoning us from companies wanting to know how to put a drug policy together. We don't come with a policy, we are just there to facilitate them with their own policy and try to get companies to put their own ethos into it. We also run training courses for industrial health nurses and HR managers.

CTDCC addiction education

We design and implement training programmes to enable communities to rise to the challenge of drug abuse where they live or work, by equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to make an impact. We are continuously coming up with educational services to meet people's unique needs.

Our services include consultation, facilitation, talks, workshops

* The workplace
* Schools
* Families

* Professionals
* And others who show an interest

The topics covered often include:

* Ways of understanding addiction
* Identifying signs of drugging

The demand for our training services is rapidly increasing as people find out what we have to offer.
